Biodiversity in Cambodia

Biodiversity is the variety of all living organisms on Earth (the diversity of species and plants in the environment) and is the range of species and varieties of animals and plants in their natural environment. The sources of biodiversity are divided into three types: (1) Genetic diversity: The diversity of genetics within each species (2) Species diversity: The diversity of species (3) Ecosystem diversity: The diversity of ecosystems. There are about 2308 species of plants in Cambodia, listed in the dictionary and 852 in the unlisted, in 164 families, in 7 genera, of which 14 are Gymnosperms, 219 genera with 488 species are Monocotyledons, and 626 genera with 1806 species are Dicotyledons. It is estimated that the total number of plant species in Cambodia may be more than 3000 species, and there may be another 700 species that are new to the country. In 2000, about 8260 plant species were discovered, of which 10% are endemic to Cambodia. In a small number of surveys in two provinces in 1991 and 2001, 57 and 125 taxa of large aquatic invertebrates were found, including insects, worms, arthropods, amphibians, and others. 28 species of amphibians and reptiles have been described. 874 species of fish have been recorded, of which 490 are freshwater, 410 are saltwater, 22 are endangered, and 1 is endemic to Cambodia. 13 are imported. More than 500 species of birds have been recorded, but this number could increase to more than 600.

Abstract

Biodiversity is the variety of all living organisms on Earth (the diversity of species and plants in the environment) and is the range of species and varieties of animals and plants in their natural environment. The sources of biodiversity are divided into three types: (1) Genetic diversity: The diversity of genetics within each species (2) Species diversity: The diversity of species (3) Ecosystem diversity: The diversity of ecosystems.
