Smart Monitoring and Alerting System for Grain Storage Optimization
ABSTRACT In recent years, many countries have been developing technologies to enhance food storage safety, as approximately one-third of the world's food grains are lost due to storage- related issues. In India, around 20% of food grains are wasted annually, primarily due to environmental factors such as floods, heavy rains, and inadequate infrastructure for packing, transporting, and storing grains. This results in significant food loss from production to consumption. To address this problem, an IoT (Internet of Things) - based optimized sensor system for monitoring grain storage has been proposed. This system aims to minimize food wastage during the storage phase. The proposed model incorporates smart sensing devices to monitor key parameters such as humidity, temperature, carbon dioxide (CO2) levels, and fire/smoke. Data from these sensors is collected by an Arduino controller and transmitted to a cloud server via a GSM (Global System for Mobile Communication) module. The system compares the collected data with predefined threshold values to detect any abnormalities in the storage environment. If any parameter deviates from the norm, a controlled action is triggered, and an alert message is sent to registered mobile numbers. Additionally, the model includes a fan to regulate humidity and temperature levels as a preventive measure before further actions are taken. Key words: Food grain, Internet of thing, CO2(Carbon dioxide),Temperature, Fire/Smoke.
