Beyond Gravity: A Multiscale Perspective on Levitation - From Quantum Flux-Pinning to Acoustic Droplets and Meditative Lightness
"Levitation" spans disparate phenomena: (i) flux-pinning of magnetic vortices in type-II superconductors; (ii) acoustic radiation pressure suspending millimetre droplets; (iii) subjective experiences of bodily lightness reported during deep meditation. We propose a unifying informational lens: each form of levitation represents a temporary entropy sink in which environmental disorder is redirected, enabling a system to oppose gravity or its proprioceptive correlate. We derive a generalized lift equation F_lift = (dI/dt) * λ, where dI/dt is the time-rate of predictive information gained by the system and λ encapsulates the coupling medium (magnetic, acoustic, vagal-neural). We outline three coupled experiments—Quantum Flux Clamp, Acoustic Micro-Lev, and Meditative Vagal-Lev—to test whether information flow can be mapped onto measurable lift or perceived weightlessness. Success would suggest that levitation, at any scale, is an emergent sign of optimal information exchange.
