INTEGRATION OF DIGITAL SOLUTIONS TO IMPROVE THE EFFICIENCY OF WATER SHUTOFF OPERATIONS IN WATERED-OUT OIL WELLS
This article addresses the issue of increasing the effectiveness of water shut-off operations in oil production wells affected by excessive water influx. The research emphasizes the integration of contemporary digital technologies into well management and water control strategies. As oil reservoirs mature, the occurrence of unwanted water ingress becomes more frequent, leading to considerable losses in operational efficiency, rising production costs, and heightened environmental concerns. From an operational standpoint, water breakthrough results in reduced oil extraction rates and poses risks to downhole and surface infrastructure. Simultaneously, in terms of environmental responsibility, uncontrolled water migration within hydrocarbon-bearing formations can trigger geological instability and facilitate the spread of pollutants. Thus, there is an urgent industry need for improved and sustainable water shut-off techniques that go beyond conventional approaches. The objective of this study is to formulate a novel methodology leveraging digital innovations such as hydrodynamic modeling, data analytics, and flow behavior simulations to optimize water shut-off practices. By analyzing the redistribution of reservoir energy caused by water movement, the proposed framework aims to identify intervention targets and apply adaptive control solutions tailored to well-specific conditions. The proposed digital-based strategy contributes to more reliable, efficient, and environmentally sound oilfield water management.
