Crime Scene Documentation Technologies: A brief review
Crime scene documentation forms the backbone of forensic investigation, enabling the preservation, analysis, and presentation of physical evidence crucial to criminal case resolution. This review explores the evolution of documentation technologies, from traditional methods such as handwritten notes, rough and final sketches, and analog photography, to advanced digital innovations including 3D laser scanning, photogrammetry, drones, and virtual/augmented reality. Traditional techniques, while simple and costeffective, often lack the accuracy and reproducibility required in modern forensic contexts. In contrast, advanced methods offer high-resolution visualization, spatial accuracy, and improved scene reconstruction capabilities but demand significant technical expertise and resources.
