The Initiative of School Authorities in Secondary Schools to Promote Science Education in the Kaliabor Region of Nagaon District, Assam

This study investigates the initiatives undertaken by secondary schools in the Kaliabor region of Assam’s Nagaon district to promote science education through experiential learning activities such as science exhibitions and educational excursions. Drawing data from 13 government senior secondary schools, the research examines the extent to which such initiatives are implemented, including infrastructure availability, teacher involvement, and community or institutional support. Science exhibitions and excursions while vital for enriching science learning—especially in rural and semi-urban contexts—remain inconsistently practiced due to challenges related to vision, funding, and collaboration. Although schools demonstrate enthusiasm through motivated teaching staff and occasional workshops, gaps in structured planning and sustained investment limit the effectiveness of these efforts. The findings underscore the necessity of strengthening institutional frameworks, allocating targeted budgets, and building external partnerships to promote a culture of scientific curiosity. Enhancing these hands-on science activities can significantly bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical understanding, leading to improved educational outcomes.
