Titan's Lithospheric Strength Envelope and Brittle–Ductile Transition
Supporting files for Schurmeier & Fagents JGR Planets publication "Titan’s Lithospheric Strength Envelope and Brittle–Ductile Transition: The Importance of Crustal Pore Fluids, Organics, and Clathrates"MATLAB scripts to generate lithospheric strength envelopes (LSE) for Saturn's moon Titan to clacuate the Brittle-Ductile Transition (BDT) depth. MATLAB files for different ice shell structures are included: 20, 15, 10, 5 km methane clathrate crust and convecting ice - requires Kalousová and Sotin (2020) thermal profiles 5 km methane clathrate crust with insulating surface materials Pure water ice shell that is convecting (Tocean = 256 and 264 K) Pure water ice shell that is conductive only (heat flows = 5 and 7 mW/m2) A summary of the BDT depths and maximum differential stress is included as an excel file. Additional data files include: Methane & ethane density for each thermal profile Temperature, depth and density files created using PlanetProfile (Tocean = 256 and 264 K) This work was primarily funded by the NASA Cassini Data Analysis Program project “The Influence of Clathrates on Titan’s Ice Shell” (Award No. 80NSSC22K0309). Part of this work was supported by the NASA Astrobiology Institute through its JPL-led project “Habitability of Hydrocarbon Worlds: Titan and Beyond” (Award No. 17-NAI18_2-0017)
