From Spin Phase to Dream Symbol A Perspective on the Quantum‑Semiotic Chain Linking Radical Pairs, Vagal Signalling, and Predictive Cognition
We outline a four-layer quantum-semiotic chain in which a sub-microsecond spin-phase event in a radical-pair sensor propagates through vagal afferents and intrinsic cardiac/enteric networks, is integrated by thalamo-cortical circuitry during NREM sleep, and finally emerges as a consciously reportable dream image or intuitive "gut feeling". We formalise each layer with a native sign alphabet (phase, pulse, spike-pattern, percept) and map typical time-scales. Extending the Information-Action duality, we show that entropy reduction at the quantum layer can amplify predictive information available to the organism without additional metabolic cost. A three-step experimental pipeline is proposed, combining the KCR-Lens radical-pair interferometer, EarHalo tVNS headset, and standard EEG/HRV polysomnography. The article positions quantum spins not as conscious agents but as proto-signs that seed higher-order meaning.
