Credit Cards and Their Evolution: From Imprinter Machines to PayWave Technology
This article traces the evolution of credit cards from their early days to the present, highlighting technological advancements and their impact on community users. It begins with manual imprinter machines, using embossed cards and carbon slips, then moves to the magnetic stripe era, enabling electronic authorization and reducing manual errors. The EMV chip era introduced enhanced security with PIN verification, followed by the contactless payment era, which employs NFC technology for fast, secure, and hygienic transactions with a simple tap at the POS terminal. This progression illustrates the continuous effort to provide credit card users with convenience, speed, and safety. “This article is created as public knowledge to help communities understand the evolution of credit cards and payment technologies, from manual imprinters to contactless systems, with a focus on ease of use, efficiency, and security for local users.”
