Artificial Intelligence(AI) and Indian Thought A Cultural and Literary Perspective

Artificial Intelligence (AI), unlike the technological, ethical and philosophical perceptions, has remarkably less explored intersections with Indian thought. The paper investigates AI as a subject from a cultural and literary purview, taking cues from Indian philosophical traditions, mythology and modern literary representations. Indian philosophy, of which consciousness, cognition and systems of knowing are fundamental, offers a one-off lens through which the evolution and ethical aspects of AI can be best understood. Self-awareness, logic and causality can be seen as alternative paradigms to that offered in Western discourse on AI, drawn from Vedanta, Nyaya and Buddhism, respectively. Nothing, however, compares with Indian literature in all its antiquity and modernity, in terms of hopes and fears, plus narratives surrounding artificial beings-from ancient texts about mechanical automata, right up to modern fiction about characters powered by artificial intelligence. It talks about how Indian cultural narratives enhance the process of getting AI into society-dharma, karma and ethical governance of AI. This paper is intended to give an all-round portrait of the impact of AI on India's intellectual and imaginative landscape, complementing technology with culture and literary discourse. In short, far-reaching localizations of AI have been born through indigenous knowledge traditions going to roots in the development of culturally contoured AI policies and ethical frameworks. Keywords: Artificial Intelligence, Indian Philosophy, AI in Indian Literature, Dharma and AI Ethics, Indian Cultural Narratives
