Studies On Toxicity Of Selenium With Respect To Carassius Auratus
Abstract Water pollution, driven by the discharge of industrial, agricultural, and household waste, remains one of the most critical environmental challenges worldwide. Among the most concerning pollutants are toxic substances such as heavy metals, chemicals, and other contaminants, which pose severe risks to aquatic life. This study investigates the toxic effects of selenium on Carassius auratus a commonly used model organism in environmental toxicology. Carassius auratus, due to their sensitivity to changes in water quality, serve as an indicator species for assessing the impact of various pollutants on aquatic ecosystems. In this study, Carassius auratus were exposed to different concentrations of selenium, to assess its impact on their survival, behaviour, and physiological functions. The findings of this study highlight the importance of monitoring water quality and the need for effective pollution control measures to protect aquatic life
