The Decentralized Monetary Index - Risk (DMI-R)
Central banks globally are grappling with the profound implications of decentralized finance (DeFi) on monetary and financial stability. The rapid evolution of DeFi protocols introduces novel risks that traditional supervisory frameworks may not adequately capture. This paper introduces the Decentralized Monetary Index - Risk (DMI-R), a sophisticated composite indicator designed to function as an early warning system for central banks. The DMI-R aims to quantify and monitor the potential vulnerabilities arising from the increasing decentralization of financial activities, including the erosion of conventional monetary policy transmission mechanisms, the emergence of new liquidity risks, and the growing interconnectedness between traditional and decentralized financial systems. By providing a robust, data-driven framework, the DMI-R empowers policymakers to proactively identify, assess, and mitigate systemic risks, thereby safeguarding financial stability in an increasingly complex and decentralized monetary environment.
