A Study of Health Insurance Financial Performance in India: Indian Knowledge Systems and Their Role in Rural Development – A Case Study of Jawhar

Abstract: In rural areas of India, where access to healthcare is limited by insufficient infrastructure and budgetary limitations, the healthcare system faces considerable obstacles. One important tool for enhancing healthcare access and ensuring financial stability is health insurance. In addition to investigating how Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) impact the uptake of health insurance and rural development, this study looks at the financial performance of health insurance companies that operate in rural India, specifically in Jawhar, Maharashtra. Using a quantitative analysis of 120 participants, the study evaluates how health insurance accessibility affects various income brackets and how it contributes to rural socioeconomic stability. The results show that financial performance and rural development are strongly correlated, underscoring the significance of insurance affordability and trust in boosting uptake. Furthermore, including IKS into insurance models might raise awareness and acceptability. The paper makes recommendations for future research topics for wider application as well as focused policy actions to increase the prevalence of health insurance in rural areas.
