Ovarian Cyst and Pregnancy: A Case Report
Ovarian cysts during pregnancy are generally benign, with an incidence of approximately 1%. They typically appear in the second trimester and are most commonly diagnosed via ultrasound. While many cysts remain asymptomatic, the primary complication of concern is adnexal torsion. We present the case of a pregnant woman with a history of two previous cesarean sections who arrived at the maternity hospital in active labor. Obstetric ultrasound revealed a 15 cm cyst in the left ovary. Given the presence of a double-scarred uterus in labor, an emergency cesarean section was performed. Following meticulous haemostasis, a cystectomy was carefully carried out. This case highlights the importance of ultrasound in diagnosing ovarian cysts during pregnancy and the complexities of surgical management due to the associated fetal risks.
