Liberal Democracy is not Democracy: Neoclassicism Politics Perspectives
Much work has been done on democracy and liberal democracy. Despite this, scholars have failed to convey that these are two distinct ideologies. This paper challenges fundamental propositions that hold democracy as synonymous with liberal democracy. The paper delves into individualism, rights, liberty, media, and the protection of minorities. The work thereby explores the differences between the two concepts — first, in principles, and second, in practice. Empirical examples provided offer a posteriori evidence aimed at enforcing the assertion that democracy, when infused with liberal tenets, forms a novel governance system: liberal democracy.
