Fitting African librarians into the future of learning
How people learn and what they need to learn keeps on evolving. Library professionals need to be aware of the possibilities brought on by changing landscape of learning and key into how to bridge the gap between what is taught in classrooms and what the real world needs in terms of skills and knowledge of 'new' concepts not captured in the different curricula in formal educational systems. This is critical for Africa where the demographics indicate a definite youth bulge. The presentation outlines some of the activities of the African Library and Information Associations and Institutions (AfLIA) in bringing African librarians to understand and inculcate these changes in their information service offerings.
