Antimicrobial Resistance: Current Trends and Future Strategies
Antimicrobial resistance as emerged as critical as global challenges, threatening the effectiveness of antibiotics on other antimicrobial agents use to treat infectious disease. The improper and excessive use of antimicrobials in human medicine, animal agriculture and environmental sectors has accelerated the development and spread of non-susceptible microorganism. This review highlights the current trends and future strategies in AMR, including increasing resistance among bacterial sepsis, global antibiotic consumption patterns and increasing mortality linked to drug resistant- infection. The study also explores the underlying mechanisms of resistance such as, genetic mutations and horizontal gene transfer. key contributing factors- including poor infection control, lake of clean water, sanitation and inadequate surveillance are discussed. There is an urgent need for countries to work together, use antibiotic more carefully improving infection control and develop new tests and treatments to fight antimicrobial resistance (AMR). This review also highlights future solutions and stresses the important of the one health approach which connect humans, animals and environmental health.
