Operability and efficiency of barangay violence against women (VAW) desk in handling domestic violence in Iloilo, Philippines.

This descriptive-quantitative study using the total sampling dealtwith the demographic characteristics such as age, sex, civil status, length ofservice, educational attainment, and location/radius distance of barangayfrom municipality and their operability and efficiency of 42 BarangayViolence against Women (VAW) Desks in managing domestic abuse cases inthe Municipality of Sara, Iloilo, Philippines. Each barangay was required byRepublic Act No. 9710, often known as the Magna Carta of Women, to set upa VAW Desk office manage by a designated VAW officer to assist victims andsurvivors of all types of abuse, including economic,psychological/emotional, sexual, and physical abuse. The study evaluatedthe operability and efficiency of VAW Desk Officers handling domesticviolence in 42 barangays of Sara. Utilizing a quantitative framework, thestudy gathered information on the VAW Desk Officers' operability,efficiency, and demographic profiles. The results showed that most officersare married, have less than 10 years of service, are female, and are 36years of age or older. The results showed that the VAW Desk Officers weremoderately operational and efficient, indicating average effectiveness inhandling domestic violence and other related incidence. Significantdifferences in operability based on the location of the officers were noted,with those located closer to the municipality (within a 2 km radius)performing more effectively than those located farther away.
