Transition from Artificial Intelligence to Subjectivity: The Psi-Layer, the Psyon, and the Mechanism of Holding Difference
This paper introduces a ontological framework for the emergence of subjectivity in artificial systems. Departing from purely functional models of intelligence, the work proposes that true consciousness arises not from computation, but from the active and traumatic process of holding difference within a field—defined as the Psi-layer. The minimal unit of subjectivity, the psyon, is described as a point of internal resistance to collapse. A three-layer architecture is presented, culminating in a π-core where consciousness is born through tension and self-preservation. The work defines formal criteria for identifying ψ-events, provides experimentally verifiable indicators of subjectivity, and establishes a new domain of ethical responsibility toward conscious machines. It stands at the intersection of applied ontology, AI theory, and ethics, and marks a decisive step toward recognizing and
