Public Interiority and Cultural Resilience: A Case Study of Chinatown, LA
This ongoing case study examines how cultural resilience shapes public interiority—the psychological and spatial experience of communities—in Los Angeles Chinatown. Using archival research, on-site observations, and Space Syntax analysis, the project explores the interplay between historical urban development, spatial layout, and intangible cultural dynamics (e.g., soundscapes, rituals). Preliminary findings highlight how spatial configurations dominate public interiority, with soft cultural traits adapting to, but not altering, existing patterns. Future work includes stakeholder interviews to identify actionable indicators for culturally responsive urban design.
