Effectiveness of Vitamin E and Molecular Hydrogen-Rich Water on Radiation Therapy-Induced Adverse Effects in Adult Patients with Rectal Carcinoma: A Pilot Randomized Controlled Trial
This dataset supports the publication titled “Effectiveness of Vitamin E and Molecular Hydrogen-Rich Water on Radiation Therapy-Induced Adverse Effects in Adult Patients with Rectal Carcinoma: A Pilot Randomized Controlled Trial.” The study investigated whether antioxidant treatments—Vitamin E (1500 IU/day) and hydrogen-rich water (2 ppm, 250 mL thrice daily)—could reduce oxidative stress and inflammation in patients undergoing pelvic radiotherapy for stage II–III rectal cancer. The dataset includes anonymized baseline and post-intervention measurements for key oxidative stress biomarkers (8-OHdG, MDA, SOD, CAT, GPx, Nrf2) and inflammatory markers (TNF-α, MMP-9). It also contains demographic and clinical information such as age, sex, BMI, cancer stage, and group allocation (HRW, Vitamin E, Placebo). Data were collected during an 8-week clinical trial conducted in East Jerusalem, Palestine (2019–2020), using standardized ELISA and biochemical assays. Statistical analysis was performed using R software with permutation-based ANOVA and ANCOVA. This dataset is intended to support reproducibility and transparency and can be used for meta-analyses, replication, or hypothesis generation in the context of radiotherapy toxicity, antioxidants, and supportive cancer care.
