Detection Of Diabetic Retinopathy And Its Types Using Matlab
Abstract Diabetic retinopathy, progressive eye disease caused by long-term high levels of blood sugar in people with diabetes. The blood vessels get affected in the retina, the light-sensitive tissue at the back of the eye, leading to damage and impaired vision. The disease can develop through various stages, starting with mild NPDR, non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy where in the retina, the tiny blood vessels, leak fluids and blood, causing swelling and blurring of vision. As the disease advances, it leads to severe NPDR and proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR), where anomalous new blood vessels develop on the retina, which can rupture and bleed into the vitreous, the clear gel-like substance in the mid of the eye, causing sudden vision loss. The image processing and analysis of retinal images to aid in the diagnosis and detection of diabetic retinopathy can be done with the help of MATLAB tool.
