Chimarra actinifera Schmid 1958

Chimarra actinifera Schmid 1958 (Figs 7–10) Chimarra actinifera Schmid 1958, 54, p. 10, pl 12 figs 6–9. Material Examined. India: Tamil Nadu; Erode, 11°38’14.24”N, 77°19’48.83”E, 746 m, 31.i. 2023, 11 males, 12 females, R Babu, (HARC, ZSI Solan). Diagonsis. The male genitalia of Chimarra actinifera Schmid 1958 are similar to those of C. telihigola Schmid 1958 (also reported from Sri Lanka). However, in lateral view (Fig. 7), the anterior and posterior margins of segment IX are nearly parallel in C. actinifera, whereas in C. telihigola segment IX is strongly produced anterodorsally and anteroventrally. The posteroventral process of segment IX is long, broad, and obliquely truncate in lateral view (Fig. 7) in C. actinifera, whereas it is short, elliptical, and apically blunt in C. telihigola. In lateral view, each sclerotized lateral lobe of tergum X in C. actinifera is elongate and forms before the upturned apex two small subapical “teeth,” one triangular and the second as an upturned hook, however, no such small subapical “teeth” are present in C. telihigola. In caudal view, each inferior appendage is concave subbasally and there is a single round mesal projection at 2/3 distance from the base in C. actinifera, however, there is an acute subbasal angle and two round mesal projections at 1/2–2/3 distance from the base in C. telihigola. Description. Adult male. Color in alcohol yellowish brown, dorsum of head dark brown, antennae pale yellow. Body length from tip of head to apices of folded forewings 9.5 mm. Wings brownish. Length of each forewing 7.00 mm; length of discoidal cell about 2X its width; apical fork III about 1.5X its stalk length. Length of each hind wing 5.50 mm. Male genitalia (Figs 7–10). Sternite VIII with small posteroventral process. In lateral view (Fig. 7), concave anterior and convex posterior margins of segment IX nearly parallel, posterolateral margin with small triangular projection above midheight, posteroventral process long, broad, obliquely truncate. In lateral view (Fig. 7), preanal appendages each well developed, thumb-like, setose. Inferior appendages each with round subbasal angle of about 90°, slightly longer than tergum X, apically round; in caudal view (Fig. 9), projecting laterad from base and curved gradually mesad, concave mesal margin with small triangular and apically round projection at 2/3 distance from base. Tergum X with well-developed pair of sclerotized lateral lobes as well as membranous mesal lobe; in lateral view (Fig. 7) each sclerotized lateral lobe broad at base, tapering to upturned apex, subapically with two small subapical “teeth,” more-nearly basal “tooth” triangular and second “tooth” appearing as upturned hook; in dorsal view (Fig. 8) these sclerotized lateral lobes digitate on either side of membranous mesal lobe of tergum X. Phallus very long, slender, tubular, apically directed ventrad, phallotremal complex present, long and curved spine present at midlength, apicoventral margin of phallicata large spherical polyp-like process covered with radiating fine silky threads; spine present on apex of phallotremal membranes. Distribution. India (Tamil Nadu), Sri Lanka.
