Adapting Emerging Trends in the Professional Training and Practice of Exercise Scientists to Meet the Health Needs for Sustainable Development in Delta State
Abstract This study employed a quantitative survey approach to examine how emerging trends are being adopted in the professional training and practice of exercise scientists in Delta State, with a focus on addressing health needs for sustainable development. Data were collected using a validated structured questionnaire administered to 120 participants from various institutions and organizations. The data were analyzed using SPSS version 27, and hypotheses were tested using t-test statistics at a 5% significance level. Findings revealed a notable gap in the integration of emerging trends, such as technology, holistic wellness, and cultural sensitivity, into the training curriculum of exercise scientists. While awareness of these trends was relatively high, their practical application remained inconsistent. Respondents identified both enabling and limiting factors in adopting new approaches. The study concludes that bridging this gap is critical to equipping professionals with the tools required to meet evolving health challenges. It recommends a review of academic curricula, professional development opportunities, and strategic alignment with current global best practices in exercise science
