Accentuating Accountability and Transparency in The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Taraba State
One of the major strategy for achieving development administration is by ensuring accountability and transparency in Governance. The two concepts constitutes global values for achieving sustainable development. The paper investigates the application of accountability, transparency principles within the operations of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Taraba State, Nigeria. As a key institution responsible for road safety and traffic law enforcement, the FRSC’s practices offer insights into governance dynamics in a region marked by socio-economic and infrastructural challenges. Utilizing good governance theory, this study examines the FRSC’s strategies, including ICT adoption, public engagement, and anti-corruption initiatives, to assess their alignment with accountability and transparency. A mixed-methods approach, combining secondary literature analysis and empirical data from Taraba State, reveals moderate success in governance practices, constrained by bureaucratic inefficiencies, limited public awareness, corruption, and resource shortages. The paper recommends an enhanced ICT infrastructure, community-based sensitization, and stronger oversight to improve governance outcomes. This study contributes to the discourse on public sector governance and road safety administration in Nigeria.
