Building a Stronger Islamic Finance System in Pakistan

Islamic finance has a lot of untapped potential in Pakistan. Despite growing interest, driven by a large Muslim population and a desire for ethical financial services, the industry still has not reached its full stride. It faces several ongoing challenges, like unclear regulations, a narrow range of Sharia-compliant products, limited coordination with conventional banks, low public awareness, and outdated technology. To truly move forward, five key reforms are essential: simplifying and standardizing regulatory policies, expanding product offerings, encouraging collaboration between Islamic and conventional banking systems, boosting financial literacy, and investing in modern digital tools. With the right approach, Islamic finance can grow beyond its current niche and become a meaningful part of Pakistan’s financial future, balancing Islamic values with the needs of a modern economy
