The pygofer and aedeagus of this species lack processes (DeLong & Wolda 1984: 25, figs 26-31). In their remarks, the original authors compared P. boquetea with P. vana DeLong & Freytag, 1972, a species of the subgenus Bulbusana. The absence of processes on the pygofer and aedeagus are indicative that P. boquetea belongs in the subgenus Polanana.
