Report on the demo site grid setups

Deliverable D7.1 is a report on the work done to adapt the RWTH pilot hybrid grid to allow for new grid setups and validation of grid operation. It describes the available devices for grid operation as well as the newly designed control software. A fault analysis is conducted for the individual grid parts and the operation of the grid is finally demonstrated under the scope of the RWTH demo-site workshop meeting in September 2023. The report details all available devices for grid operation and gives electrical details. The current state of the devices is stated, and necessary work for grid operation is summed up. Also, the grid structure of the RWTH hybrid grid is introduced. In addition, a centralized control software for grid operation is introduced. The concept of this software is explained, and connection interfaces between this software and the grid devices are discussed. Furthermore, the implementation of these interfaces is explained. For the RWTH hybrid grid, a fault analysis for every grid part was conducted. Possible fault scenarios are considered, and solution for grid protection are discussed separately. Specifically, dc grid protection without dc circuit breakers is discussed, and a suitable protection concept is introduced. Finally, preparations for the hybrid grid operation is discussed. The final grid structure is introduced, and commissioning work is given exemplarily for two devices.
