Bridging Healthcare Innovation and Data Protection - The Interplay Between Legal Requirements and Technical and Organisational Implementation in the Establishment of a Health Data Trustee

The research project ROUTINE's aim is to establish a regulatory sandbox for Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications in healthcare in Baden-Württemberg. At its core, the project implements a data trustee as a fundamental infrastructure component, enabling secure and compliant data flow between healthcare providers and AI developers. This approach directly addresses one of the major barriers in digital healthcare innovation processes and a consistent challenge in research initiatives, particularly for AI applications: restricted access to high-quality healthcare data. Through selected use cases, ROUTINE identifies user requirements across various development stages, from ideation to translation, along with AI training and policy advice on translation.
