Regulating Space Cybersecurity: Charting the Path Towards Unified International Action and Resilience
This paper explores the critical need for global collaboration in addressing the growing cybersecurity risks facing space systems. It discusses how increasing reliance on satellites for communication, defense, and economic functions exposes global infrastructure to sophisticated cyber threats. The paper underscores the importance of AI and advanced encryption in enhancing threat detection and space system resilience, while also identifying governance and legal challenges surrounding emerging technologies. It calls for internationally harmonized cybersecurity standards, cooperative public-private partnerships, and dedicated oversight bodies to strengthen space security. Ultimately, it makes a compelling plea for unified global action to protect our shared interests in the increasingly contested domain of outer space.
