A BIBLIOMETRIC ANALYSIS OF POPULAR FICTION GENRES: CIRCULATION TRENDS AND PATRON PREFERENCES IN AN ARCHDIOCESAN CATHOLIC UNIVERSITY

This study examines the circulation trends and patron preferences for popular fiction genres in an Archdiocesan Catholic University library in the Philippines through a bibliometric analysis of borrowed fiction books. The study identifies dominant genre preferences, shifting reading trends, and the influence of specific titles and authors on borrowing patterns by analyzing library circulation data over multiple academic years. Findings indicate that Mystery/Thriller, Fantasy, and Romance are consistently the most borrowed genres, reflecting patrons' inclination toward suspenseful storytelling, immersive narratives, and emotionally engaging themes. Additionally, Young Adult (YA) and Dystopian Fiction have gained popularity in specific years, influenced by media adaptations and contemporary literary trends. The study underscores the role of libraries in curating collections that align with evolving reader interests while fostering a culture of reading. Insights from this research can guide librarians in evidence-based collection development and reader engagement strategies.
