MANAGEMENT OF CERVICAL RADICULOPATHY AND SIDDHA INTERVENTION- A CASE REPORT
ABSTRACT Background : Cervical radiculopathy is the pain and sensorimotor deficit caused by the compression of spinal nerve root, which is seen as a major symptom in cervical spondylosis. The Siddha system of medicine, is a vast repository of internal and external medicines. A foresaid external therapies are particularly used to treat various musculoskeletal disorders. Methodology: Based on Siddha texts and traditional practices, we observed the effects of Varmam and ottradam application in a 35-year-old male , known case of cervical spondylosis who visited the OPD of Sri Sairam Siddha Medical College Hospital, with complaints of unrestrained pain and stiffness in the neck with difficulty in lateral neck movements , radiating pain and numbness indigits. We started Varmam and Ottradam therapies once a day for about 15 days .Observations were based on comparing parameters in initial and 15 th day physical examination using the Bubble inclinometer, Neck Disability Index ( NDI) scales. Results and outcome : Sidhha varmam and ottradam therapy, has shown promising improvements in cervical mobility and posture, and the patient has resumed full-time work and previous levels of function. Thus application of varmam and ottradam as a non invasive siddha intervention , well defines the improvement in the quality of life in patients suffering from cervical radiculopathy
