Comprehensive Review of Bidirectional DC-DC Converters Multilevel Inverters and Control Strategies for Solar-Wind Hybrid Systems
Abstract: - The necessity for sophisticated energy conversion systems to facilitate seamless grid integration has increased due to the growing reliance on renewable energy sources. This paper examines the vital role of bidirectional DC-DC converters in RE applications, with a focus on their importance in storage systems, EV’s, and smart grid systems. A comprehensive analysis of non-isolated and isolated converter topologies, such as buck-boost, Cuk, SEPIC/Zeta, flyback, and dual-active bridge configurations, is presented, emphasizing their working principles, benefits, and limitations. Additionally, advanced control techniques, including PID, fuzzy logic, sliding mode, model predictive, and ANFIS, are explored for their effectiveness in addressing challenges like non-linearity and dynamic load variations. The paper also highlights the role of multilevel inverters, discussing their types, applications, and contributions to improving power quality, voltage gain, and system dependability. Furthermore, the dual-leg DC-AC converter is discussed for its efficiency in converting DC power to single-phase AC, with applications in solar inverters, BESS, and uninterruptible power supplies (UPS). These innovations in power electronics are instrumental in facilitating the efficient and sustainable adoption of renewable energy technologies.
