The Bible inspired by the Orishas - Genesis בראשית - From monoriginal to transoriginality
This work offers an Afro-diasporic reinterpretation of Genesis, combining the original Hebrew text with a personal English translation and a creative narrative centered on the Orishas. The monotheistic deity of the biblical account is replaced by Olódùmarè, and as the acts of creation unfold, the divine attributes traditionally ascribed to God are thoughtfully reassigned to various Orishas, based on symbolic correspondences between biblical actions and the roles these entities play in Yoruba cosmology. Every divine intervention in Genesis was carefully analyzed, and each character who originally interacted with God is now in dialogue with a specific Orisha chosen according to spiritual function and narrative coherence. The English translation presented here is not a conventional or theological one - it is deeply personal, literary, and performative. More than a symbolic swap of names, this project is a poetic, theological, and political gesture that seeks to reclaim marginalized epistemologies and spiritualities. It reimagines the sacred through a decolonial lens, constructing an Afro-Atlantic midrash that invites readers to rethink origin stories, divine agency, and ancestral connection.
