Resistance to Abuse of Power in The Novel Tanah Para Bandit by Tere Liye
This study analyzes the representation of resistance to the abuse of power in the novel Tanah Para Bandit by Tere Liye through Antonio Gramsci's hegemony theory framework. The novel depicts complex social dynamics, where economic, political and legal power is used by the ruling elite to perpetuate their domination over the small community. The abuse of power is seen through legal manipulation, control over natural resources, and exploitation of the state apparatus. In response, the subordinate group led by Padma performs strategic resistance involving survival skills, technology, and physical action. In this analysis, resistance is not only defined as direct confrontation but also as an effort to build critical awareness of the hegemonic system. This research shows that through counter-hegemonic narratives, Tanah Para Bandit functions as a social critique that exposes systemic injustice, while offering a model of resistance to corrupt power. This conclusion reinforces the relevance of Gramsci's theory in understanding the relationship between power, ideology and resistance in the Indonesian social and cultural context.
