AN INVESTIGATION INTO THE EXPERIENCES OF FAMILY MEMBERS OF INDIVIDUALS WITH ALCOHOL DEPENDENCE IN SELF-HELP GROUPS

This study explores the experiences of family members of individuals with alcohol dependence who participate in self-help groups. A qualitative research design was employed, utilizing semi-structured interviews and content analysis with eight participants from self-help groups in the Western region of Lithuania. The findings indicate that participation in self-help groups provides emotional support, reduces feelings of isolation, and fosters self-confidence and personal development. Moreover, these groups were found to enhance coping strategies, strengthen emotional resilience, and facilitate a deeper understanding of addiction. The results suggest that selfhelp groups play a crucial role in addressing the psychosocial needs of affected family members and should be integrated into broader addiction support systems.
