Multiple Connections, Singular Site: Following-by-Staying
Multi-sited research gives fluidity to the social world. By following phenomena and drawing connections between disjunctive sites, multisited research advances understandings of entanglement, contestation, and solidarity between people and things across geographical, institutional, and economic distance (Appadurai 1986, 1996; Harvey 1990; Marcus 1995). Contrary to traditional comparative designs where cases are taken as independent units (see e.g., George and Bennett 2005; Gerring 2007), multi-sited projects follow connection and interdependence across sites.
