PREVALENCE AND RISK FACTORS ASSOCIATED WITH RESPIRATORY DISTRESS SYNDROME AMONG NEONATES DELIVERED IN SOS HOSPITAL MOGADISHU SOMALIA

Abstract The term Neonatal Respiratory Distress (NRD), applies to all forms of abnormal gaseous exchange at the level of the lung of a neonate irrespective of the cause (lorel et al.2017) It is an inability to maintainrespiratory homeostasis, leading to impairment of gaseous exchange, ventilation- perfusion mismatch and cerebral anoxia. It’s vital risk imposes a rapid diagnosis and an urgent treatment of its etiology. Objectives: the study is to assess the Risk Factors associated with respiratory distress syndrome among neonates delivered at sos Hospital.to determine the socio demographic factors related to respiratory distress syndrome in sos Hospital. to identify maternal factors related to respiratory distress syndrome in sosHospital.to identify neonatal factors related to respiratory distress syndrome in sos Hospital. Method: This study is descriptive, cross-sectional survey on hospital-based study to the Risk Factorsassociated with respiratory distress syndrome among neonates delivered in sos Hospital.A descriptive survey will be selected because it provides an accurate portrayal or account of the characteristics, for example the demographic characteristics, maternal risk factors and neonatal risk factors. This design is chosen to meet the objectives of the study, namely the Risk Factors associated with respiratory distress syndrome amongneonates delivered in sos Hospital. Findings: Neonatal Respiratory Distress (NRD), has been found to be a common neonatal problem withconsiderable neonatal morbidity and mortality. So the study discovered the prevalence of sign of respiratorywas found in children to be 15.0% among the total number delivered at sos Hospital Male gender andelective cesarean section are significant risk factors Conclusions and Recommendation: Prevalence was15% newborns are affected by neonatal respiratory distress, which is a prominent cause of neonatal admissions andexhibits a considerable mortality rate. Many of the remarkable risk factors and causes of this condition can be prevented. Enhancing the monitoring of pregnancy and labor to promptly identify risk factors and provide timely intervention possible to enhance the outcome of neonatal respiratory distress. In general, the findings of the studyunderscore the immediate requirement for improving obstetric care and maternal care equipping neonatal care units to effectively address neonatal respiratory distress
