Augmenting Google Drive with Digital Asset Management Functionalities Assessing an Integrated DAM Approach for Small Game and Film Production Teams

This master thesis explores the most critical digital asset management (DAM) features missing from cloud-based storage platforms like Google Drive and evaluates how a newly developed tool integrating selected features, specifically version control and threaded feedback, affects user satisfaction and usability. A Q-sorting exercise identifies the key DAM functionalities most valued in game and film production workflows for smaller studios and independent creators. Based on these findings, the thesis introduces a cost-effective extension to Google Drive incorporating version control and threaded feedback. A usability study then measures how this tool influences user satisfaction and perceived usability. This research provides insights into improving DAM capabilities in widely used cloud storage platforms, aiming to make professional asset management more accessible for resource-constrained creative teams.
