Science - BFSP - M1.1 2024 Open Call for Biodiversity, Food Security and Pathogens Implementation Studies
The 2024 Biodiversity, Food Security and Pathogens (BFSP) Open Call, part of the 2024-2026 BFSPwork programme, ELIXIR 2024-28 Programme, focuses on integrating life science data to addresssocietal challenges related to biodiversity, food security, and pathogens. The call aims to enhanceexisting ELIXIR Communities and Services by developing resources, connecting datasets, creatingtraining materials, and establishing guidelines for data sharing and analysis. The call favourssmaller, high-impact projects within single Communities, setting the stage for larger,cross-Community initiatives in 2025. Six projects were submitted, with four selected after a rigorous review process involving the ELIXIRDirector, Programme Manager, Science Officers, and external reviewers. The selected projectsinclude:1. E-PAN: Enhancing pan-genome analysis in plants to standardize protocols and tools forcrop research.2. FAIRyMAGs: Optimizing metagenomics workflows and training materials to advancebiodiversity and pathogen research.3. HARVEST: Standardizing plant research data to improve accessibility and integration.4. Odyssey: Connecting molecular and geographical biodiversity data through a user-friendlyweb portal. These projects will maintain coordination within ELIXIR Communities, extend the scope ofmetagenomics research, and foster collaborations beyond ELIXIR, preparing for future HorizonEurope open calls. The outcomes will provide essential tools, guidelines, and training foundations, supporting innovation and collaboration in life science research.
