Empowering Special Learners: Bridging Gaps Through Assistive Technology

The education of children with special needs (CWSN) in India has seen significant progress over the years, but there are still many challenges that need to be addressed. Equitable educational opportunities for all children as mandated by the Right to Act (2009) emphasize the necessity of education for all children, including children with special needs. Education of these special learners requires modification of curriculum planning, transaction, and execution at every level. Assistive technology is an essential tool in addressing their learning challenges. It creates an inclusive educational environment and thereby improves the learning outcomes of diverse learners. It provides personalized learning, ensures curriculum access, and fosters independence, social integration, and in turn lifelong learning among these children. This paper explores the pivotal role of assistive technology in facilitating inclusive and accessible education for all. The study concludes that integrating assistive technology is crucial for achieving the goals of universal education and creating a society where every child has the opportunity to reach their full potential.
