M97 Project: Exploring Mind Control with Emerging Technologies

One of the main challenges in neuroscience is modulating complex cognitive and affective states in a non-invasive way. Current Transcranial Electrical Stimulation (tES) paradigms often treat the subject as a passive recipient, leaving aside the fact that with intervention from the subject may lead to different and interesting results. Here is introduced an active neuromodulation framework where tES is synergistically combined with targeted and self-directed cognitive protocols. This study demonstrate that this synergy can achieve highly specific outcomes, including the successful alteration of the emotional valence of a targeted autobiographical memory. This work suggests that the true potential of non-invasive neuromodulation may be unlocked by leveraging the brain's own intentional processes, opening new opportunities for personalized therapeutic and enhancement technologies.
