Branch vocabulary of unwritten Chamalin language: results and prospects of study

The preservation and development of national culture and historical roots is an important task that requires careful treatment of historical and cultural monuments, traditional folk art. Accordingly, the urgent and main task of modern Dagestani studies is to collect and record the language material that has not yet been lost, mainly small ethnic groups that have preserved the traditional communal way of life, while continuing to remain unwritten, and on which similar work has not been carried out before, with the exception of several languages. In the course of the study, synchronous descriptive, and statistical methods have been applied. The article provides a brief overview of the branch vocabulary studies in some languages of the North Caucasus region. The state of research of the branch vocabulary layer in one of the unwritten Avar-Ando-Caesian languages i.e. Chamalin is analysed. The works characterizing certain sections of branch terminology are enumerated. The plan for further collection, systematization, and fixation of the branch vocabulary is presented. This research is of scientific and practical significance for further study of the Chamalin language. The work will become a prerequisite for compiling a language grammar, and will play an invaluable role in the development of comparative lexicology of the Avar-Ando-Caesian languages, in particular, and the Dagestan languages, in general.
