Integration Between Veterinary Medicine and Humane Grooming: The Impact of Aesthetic and Behavioral Care on Animal Recovery and Well-Being
This article explores the integration between veterinary medicine and humane grooming, demonstrating how aesthetic care and behavioral management can contribute to animal recovery, stress reduction, and improved quality of life. Drawing on case studies, scientific literature, and the professional practice of groomer and educator Leandro Cristiano dos Santos, the discussion emphasizes the importance of aligning technical precision with empathy and communication. The text presents practical strategies for cooperation between veterinarians and grooming professionals, highlighting benefits such as early detection of dermatological issues, prevention of complications, and facilitation of clinical procedures. It also addresses challenges to implementing this multidisciplinary model and proposes protocols aligned with the One Health concept, in which animal, human, and environmental health are interconnected. By combining evidence-based veterinary practices with welfare-oriented grooming techniques, this integrative approach strengthens the human–animal bond, improves treatment outcomes, and elevates professional standards in animal care.
