REVOLUTIONIZING LIBRARY SERVICES WITH ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IN THE DIGITAL ERA
The rapid evolution of digital technologies has created new opportunities for libraries to innovate and transform their services. Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become a key driver of this transformation, offering libraries the potential to improve user experiences, automate operations, and remain relevant in the digital age. Its integration into library systems marks a shift from traditional information management to more adaptive, interactive, and intelligent approaches. Historically, libraries have embraced new technologies to enhance service delivery and broaden their reach. The adoption of AI supports this mission by enabling personalized services, streamlining routine tasks, and improving access to large volumes of information. This paper explores the transformative potential of AI in library services. It discusses the concept of AI, its integration into library systems, and its practical applications, such as AI-powered chatbots, enhanced user experience, automated cataloguing and classification, improved operational efficiency, personalized recommendation systems, and predictive analytics. The paper also highlights challenges related to AI adoption in libraries, including data quality and integration, algorithmic bias, lack of transparency, and limited staff training. It concludes that AI can significantly enhance library services if implemented strategically. The paper recommends the development of clear AI adoption plans, staff training programmes, improved data governance, and frameworks to ensure transparency and fairness.
