The Role of PET/CT and Nuclear Medicine in Diagnosing and Monitoring Sarcoidosis
Advanced imaging is frequently necessary for the diagnosis and treatment of sarcoidosis, a systemic granulomatous disease with a variety of clinical manifestations. A crucial tool for evaluating sarcoidosis, PET/CT, especially when employing fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG), provides information on the severity and activity of the illness. Furthermore, in some therapeutic situations, nuclear medicine modalities such as cardiac imaging methods and Gallium-67 scans offer useful supplements. This study highlights the diagnostic and monitoring uses of nuclear medicine and PET/CT in the context of sarcoidosis. The paper discusses the benefits, drawbacks, and potential applications of incorporating various modalities into therapeutic practice.According to key findings, nuclear medicine techniques address particular diagnostic issues such as cardiac involvement, whereas PET/CT improves diagnostic precision, directs biopsies, and enables focused treatment. Therefore, the following research topics are addressed in this paper:1. In comparison to conventional imaging modalities, how does PET/CT increase the accuracy of diagnosis of sarcoidosis?2. How does FDG PET/CT help distinguish active sarcoidosis from diseases that mirror it, such as fibrosis?3. How may nuclear medicine methods, like Gallium-67 imaging, help detect extrapulmonary sarcoidosis in conjunction with PET/CT?4. How specifically may PET/CT be used to assess cardiac sarcoidosis?5. How might the results of nuclear medicine and PET/CT inform treatment choices for sarcoidosis?6. What are the constraints and potential advancements in nuclear medicine for the diagnosis and tracking of sarcoidosis?
