Verbal Markers of Mediated Evidentiality in Russian Publications about China

The article deals with the study of verbal markers of indirect evidentiality functioning in Russian publications about China and indirectly designating sources of information. In the context of globalization and saturation of the information field, media discourse plays a key role in shaping public perception of international events. Verbal markers are considered based on the material of 1,000 publications by Russian journalists on the website "This is China, Baby!" against the background of data from the National Corpus of the Russian Language. The analysis of the verbal markers frequency of use, determination of semantics and contextual functions of verbs, as well as the linguocultural analysis enable to characterize the verbs to report, to declare, and to announce as universal markers of evidentiality, allowing to distance ourselves from the source of information and objectively present information about China to the Russian reader in the media space.
