Degradation of Methylene Blue Dye by Pseudomonas Species and its Optimization Using Response Surface Methodology
Abstract: Every kind of life is seriously threatened by textile dye-related water contamination. Wastewater and textile effluents containing hazardous dyes can be cleaned up and detoxified by bacteria. The purpose of this study was to assess the bacterial strains' capacity to degrade the azo dye methylene blue. Using Pseudomonas sp., the best degrading efficiency was attained. Based on the preliminary screening results, Pseudomonas sp. was selected for further degradation trials because it was the most potent strain, exhibiting 96.68% degradation activity. Response Surface Methodology approach was used to optimize the conditions for degradation, and the resultant solution indicated that the greatest bacterial strain degradation capability can be reached at 27°C, pH 7, and yeast extract concentrations up to 2.89 g/100 mL.
