Data management for Productive use energy consumption in Rwanda

As of 2024, Rwanda has achieved an installed power capacity of 400.1 MW, with an available capacity of 396.7 MW. In June 2024, the maximum peak demand reached 233.7 MW, while the minimum peak was 195.6 MW. The challenge for the utility is how to effectively manage generation in relation to demand and meet Independent Power Producers (IPP) obligations. One potential solution lies in maximizing electricity consumption among Productive Use of Electricity (PUEs) consumers. However, limited data hampers the ability to fully explore this option. Therefore, a study on potential consumers, including productive users and all non-residential customers, has been proposed. To address this challenge effectively, a comprehensive database and a robust data governance framework are crucial. The proposed database schema will catalog productive user energy usage, track consumption across various consumer segments, and this will provide a data-driven approach to balancing supply and demand.
