Nosocomial Infections in Veterinary Polyclinics: Containment and Mitigation
Abstract Nosocomial infections, also known as hospital-acquired infections, are a significant concern in veterinary medicine, affecting both animal patients and veterinary staff. These infections arise from various bacterial, viral, and fungal pathogens and are associated with increased morbidity, mortality, and economic burden. This review highlights the common pathogens, modes of transmission, risk factors, and clinical manifestations of nosocomial infections in veterinary settings. Additionally, strategies for containment and mitigation, including infection control measures, antimicrobial stewardship, and surveillance programs, are discussed. Addressing nosocomial infections requires a comprehensive One Health approach to minimize zoonotic risks and enhance veterinary healthcare outcomes.
